Compact
This mixer failed after only 5 months of use. Since it was out of Amazon's 30 day replacement time frame I had to contact Hamilton Beach directly and send it back to them for repair or replacement. Fortunately I had the good sense to send it back to Hamilton Beach via UPS with a delivery signature required since Hamilton Beach claimed they never received the package from UPS. After 4 months and numerous phone calls informing them of the name of the employee who signed for the package, Hamilton Beach finally replaced my mixer, a full 6 months after receiving their defective one back. The replacement they sent is not a sturdy mixer, the motor is not heavy duty and body is flimsy. I am not satisfied with this mixer or this company, and do not recommend them or their mixers.
Broke the first time I used it
I bought this to make my Thanksgiving Mashed Potatoes. I'm not a huge cooker, and the price here on Amazon was awesome. It arrived on Wednesday. I opened it, washed the pieces, and set it up. Today, Thanksgiving, I emptied my mashed potatoes into the bowl and began mixing. It moved nicely, and I am grateful for the stand - it is my first. However, while pushing the potatoes down with a lightweight plastic spatula, it briefly got caught in one of the beaters. The piece holding the beater was broken. The entire item, with the exception of the bowl, is now trash.
Since it arrived in working order, I will not be returning it to Amazon, but I wanted to alert future buyers that this item is cheaply made. I have been cooking using hand mixers for more than 30 years and have never had this happen. The plastic holding the beaters is obviously VERY cheaply made.
I fell for the price. Give it a pass.
NOT Good As Stand Mixer (Okay As Hand Mixer)
I bought this item with the hope that it would free my hands to add ingredients and mix simultaneously and also to knead doughs, but the base and motor are simply not strong enough to rotate the bowl without help (I basically have to rotate the bowl manually), and doughs climb the "dough hook" and strain the motor. However, it does work okay as a hand mixer for non-dough mixes, and the glass bowl is very sturdy, but do NOT buy it to use as a stand mixer.
